Elizabeth Macheka Clashes with Morgan Tsvangirai’s Girlfriend
Elizabeth Macheka, the wife of opposition Movement for Democratic Change-Tsvangirai leader Morgan Tsvangirai has hauled her husband’s alleged married lover Lilian Timveos Mpofu to a meeting to discuss the affair, top party sources have told Now Daily exclusively.
The explosive meeting between the two women came after a party inquiry found that Timveos Mpofu sponsored party hooligans to assassinate Tsvangirai’s special adviser Sesel Zvidzai and spokesman Luke Tamborinyoka, accusing them of turning the ex-prime minister against her. The disgraced Midlands proportional representation senator accused the aides of putting a wedge between her and Tsvangirai, resulting in her recent dismissal from the MDC-T shadow cabinet where she held the powerful post of shadow minister for home affairs. Timveos Mpofu was reportedly sacked for incompetence and replaced by war veteran Giles Mutsekwa.
Timveos Mpofu was found to be the source and purveyor of pervasive rumours that Macheka abandoned her cancer-ridden husband and lived in South Africa with a boyfriend in 2015, the sources said.
Details of Macheka and Timveos Mpofu’s meeting are still coming in. However, the party inquiry led by senior official Murisa found that a group led by notorious MDC-T thug and 2008 Harare central police station petrol bomber Memory Mbondiah planned murder against Zvidzai and Tamborinyoka, the sources said. The bungling MDC-T national executive member failed in the attempt but implicated Timveos Mpofu as the sponsor of the plot to murder the officials, who apparently disapproved of the illicit affair. Sources said the murder plan became known through Tsvangirai’s massive network of party spies.
“Under pressure, Mbondiah named Timveos as the sponsor of the plot. Timveos denied she sponsored the murder plot, leading to a clash between her and Mbondiah,” said a senior MDC-T official. The two former friends are members of Tsvangirai’s violent so-called ‘Boko Haram’ militia that has executed horrific attacks against those opposed to the party leader. Timveos Mpofu, the wife of Cypriot gangland boss Michael Timveos, was the sponsor and instigator, with Douglas Mwonzora, of the epic 2014 violence that left former secretary-general Tendai Biti and treasurer Elton Mangoma battered and bleeding and drove them out of the MDC-T.
Shabanie Dot Coms whistleblower website has demanded the arrest by police of Timveos Mpofu for murder, saying her aide Alfonso ‘Ras Dombo’ Musvuti told the police that she promised him a new Mercedes Benz if he killed his girlfriend and brought her body parts to be used in rituals to prop up her failed political career. Shabanie Dot Coms claimed that Musvuti admitted to police he killed the woman in February 2016 and cut out her vagina, breasts and tongue, which he gave to the senator. Musvuti has disappeared after being granted bail amid fears he, too, may have been killed to silence him.
Timveos Mpofu has been implicated in numerous scandals, including dealing illegally in the Marange blood diamonds at a time when her party was mounting public demonstrations demanding accountability for a missing $15 billion state diamond booty. According to the Mirror newspaper, the senator’s illegal Marange blood diamond deals backfired after a $5 000 transaction with her former partner in crime Linnet Mazingaidzo went wrong and the pair ended up in court in May 2016.
Tsvangirai appears determined to keep Timveos Mpofu close in order to suck money out of her husband’s rich mother, the heir of her late husband’s property fortune, the party sources said. He appointed her to the less challenging post of portfolio secretary for the Zimbabwe Gender Commission, a position set to bring her into conflict with party rival and shadow minister for gender Jessie Majome.
