Local Man Kills wife for selling Family Maize
CHIMANIMANI: A local man from Sazunza village, Chief Muusha on Sunday drank poison and died after his wife sold maize without his knowledge.
According to Provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa, the deceased, Luke Mutetwa, 37, was involved in a dispute with his wife Cathrene Mudzokora, 31, who reportedly sold their maize with his permission.
“Around 1100hrs on the day in question, Mudzokora had a misunderstanding with Mutetwa and she left their matrimonial house while the deceased was sleeping,” said Kahohwa.
Mutetwa’s niece Bridget Mafondo, 17, visited him and tried to counsel him but Mutetwa insisted that he wanted to take away his life.
Mafondo left and promised to come back the following day when Mudzokora was expected to have returned so that they could solve the matter amicably.
However, when Mafondo visited Mutetwa at around 0600hrs the following day, he found him holding a bottle with poisonous residues.
Mafondo rushed and informed other neighbours but when they arrived they found Mutetwa already dead in his bedroom.
“As police, we urge couples to seek counseling from elders and church leaders in their community rather than resorting to suicide,” said Kakohwa.
