Patrick Chinamasa: Zimbabwe ‘will not be dictated to’
Zimbabwe’s finance minister Patrick Chinamasa says the country will determine its own successor to 92-year-old President Robert Mugabe.
He said there was no need for Mr Mugabe to stand down. “The president wants to leave this country on a trajectory in terms of values, in terms of destiny, which will not be reversible,” he said.
Patrick Chinamasa said that the Zimbabwean people were happy with the president’s continuing premiership and that political opposition groups were not prevented from challenging the ruling party, Zanu-PF.
“Anyone who wants to contest us, feel free,” he said.
