Rejected teacher, 38, bans girl, 15, from class, rapes her
MASVINGO: A high school teacher barred his 15-year-old student from attending lessons for turning down his love proposals and only lifted the ban after raping her, a local court heard this week.
Tawanda Zinyemba, 38, appeared at Masvingo Magistrates Courton Wednesday for raping his Ngwere Secondary School student.
Zinyemba denied the charges, arguing that the sex was by consent when he appeared before Magistrate Bishard Chineka and was remanded in custody for continuation of trial.
Prosecutor Shamiso Masokovere told the court that on unknown dates, but sometime between December 2014 and January 2015, Zinyemba raped the girl several times during lunch hour at his home which is located within the school’s premises.
This was after he tasked the girl to ferry other student’s exercise books to his house.
The court heard that Zinyemba first proposed love to the girl on a number of times but the minor turned down his advances. As a result she was banned from attending his agriculture lessons.
Zinyemba then reportedly told the girl that she could only be admitted into his lessons after she agrees to the teacher’s sexual advances.
The court heard that Zinyemba then abused the girl several times in his staff cottages house.
The abuse came to light after the minor was quizzed by her parents on rumours that she was now spending most of her afternoons at the teacher’s house.
The girl reportedly opened up, leading to a police report being made. newzimbabwe
