The 10-year-old athlete has been the only lady competitor in Zimbabwe motocross for a number of years in which she has been the best young rider in the country competing against boys.

Joining the fray in the running for the top recognition include current Zimbabwe ladies golf open champion Yolanda
Mubaiwa, top long distance runner Rutendo Nyahora, personal fitness trainer and model Teurai Chanakira and another long distance runner Sharon Tavengwa.

This is the third edition of the Ziwa, established in 2013 by Juliana Jonathan and Maud Goba with the objective to honour and magnify the country’s unrecognised heroines.

Speaking to Standardsport Tanya’s father Tawanda Polycup Muzinda said his daughter’s nomination signified recognition
for the girl child.

img_5008-2_770_wide“This nomination means that Zimbabweans and the world at large are aware of the girl child’s importance in society.

This is for the African child and not Tanya alone and we are grateful to Ziwa and hopefully she will be
the winner,” he said.

Tanya, who has struggled to keep up with the boys in recent years, has been impressive in her class this year where she sits in second place in the club championships with a good number of races to go before the season ends.

She is a front runner for points as the FIM Africa Motocross Championships set for Donnybrook raceway next weekend
where she will be racing with ladies for a change.

“At FIM championships, she will race in the ladies class with older girls and I hope she will do well against the best female riders from the whole of Africa.

Also, we are currently working on doing international races, to add to the local and regional preparation for the women Motocross Championships,” said Muzinda.

“God willing and should we get technical partners to bankroll these races, the sky will be the limit in her career,” he added.

Internationally, the motocross sensation is managed by recognised female motocross legend Tanya Muzinda Stefy Bau.
